What a window profile is, and why depth matters

A window profile is the timber frame that holds the glass unit. The deeper the profile, the more glass layers and gas-filled cavities it can accommodate. This directly determines the thermal performance: a 68mm frame fits double glazing, while 92mm accommodates triple glazing with two Argon-filled cavities.

Our standard ECO 92 profile delivers Uw 0.78 W/m²K with triple glazing, meeting passive house requirements (Uw ≤ 0.80). The ECO 68 at 68mm achieves Uw 1.0-1.3 with double glazing, ideal for renovations and mild climates.

All our wooden window profiles use engineered laminated timber, kiln-dried and bonded in layers for dimensional stability. Available in Pine, Oak, Meranti, or Larch - all from FSC-certified sources. For detailed glass specs, see our glazing options page.

How to Choose Your Profile

ECO 68 (68mm) - renovations, mild climates, budget projects. Double glazing.

ECO 92 (92mm) - new builds, Northern Europe. Triple glazing, Uw 0.78. Our recommended choice.

Quadruple 92 (92mm) - maximum insulation, Uw 0.67 (meeting Passivhaus Institut criteria). Four glass layers for the coldest climates.

Premium 115 (115mm) - outward-opening Scandinavian style. Deeper frame. Triple glazing, Uw 0.78. Quadruple glazing option down to Uw 0.6.

How Profile Depth Affects Performance

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between 68mm and 92mm profiles?

ECO 68 (68mm) fits double glazing at Uw 1.0-1.3. ECO 92 (92mm) fits triple glazing at Uw 0.78, a 40-50% improvement. ECO 92 is standard for Northern Europe. ECO 68 is cost-effective for renovations and mild climates.

Which profile meets passive house requirements?

ECO 92 with triple glazing achieves Uw 0.78, meeting the passive house threshold (Uw ≤ 0.80). For projects requiring even lower values, our premium profile with quadruple glazing can reach Uw 0.67. Contact us for premium specifications.

Which window types use the ECO 92 profile?

ECO 92 is used across our tilt and turn windows, alu-clad windows, sliding doors, fire-resistant windows, and quadruple glazed windows. ECO 68 (68mm) is the budget option for tilt and turn. Scandinavian (outward-opening) windows are built exclusively on our dedicated Premium 115 profile.

What is the difference between ECO 92 and Quadruple 92?

ECO 92 (92mm) is our standard tilt and turn system with triple glazing at Uw 0.78. Quadruple 92 uses the same 92mm frame with four glass layers, achieving Uw 0.67 - ideal for passive house projects. Premium 115 is our dedicated outward-opening Scandinavian system (115mm frame), with triple glazing at Uw 0.78 or quadruple glazing down to Uw 0.6 (the best in our range). See our thermal performance page for full U-value details.

How long do triple glazed timber windows last?

With proper maintenance (repainting every 8-12 years), engineered timber windows last 50-60 years. This is 20-30 years longer than PVC alternatives. The engineered laminated timber construction prevents warping and cracking, and the micro-porous paint system allows the wood to breathe while protecting against weathering.
