Alu-clad timber windows consist of an engineered laminated wood frame with a factory-fitted aluminium shell on the exterior. The timber provides structural strength and thermal insulation, while the aluminium protects against rain, UV, frost, and temperature extremes. The result is a window with the warmth of wood inside and near-zero maintenance outside. Windows Latvia offers alu-clad on all three profiles: ECO 68, ECO 92, and Premium.
Yes, when measured over the window's lifespan. Pure timber windows require exterior repainting every 8 to 12 years. Over 60 years that is 5 to 7 repaint cycles, plus scaffolding for upper floors. Alu-clad windows eliminate this cost entirely. The aluminium shell also protects the timber from moisture damage, extending structural life. For homeowners staying long-term or developers building to high specifications, the total cost of ownership is lower.
The upfront cost is higher. However, alu-clad timber windows last 60 years compared to 25 to 30 for uPVC. They provide better thermal insulation (wood is a natural insulator), better sound reduction, and a real wood interior finish. Over the building's lifetime, the cost per year of service is competitive with or lower than uPVC, especially when accounting for the performance difference.
The main consideration is initial cost: alu-clad timber windows cost more than pure timber or uPVC alternatives. The aluminium adds a small amount of weight to the frame. And while the powder-coat finish is durable, it can be scratched during transport or installation and should be inspected on delivery. Beyond these points, alu-clad timber is widely considered the best-performing window material for northern European climates.
Yes. The interior timber can be lacquered to show natural window profiles, wood grain, tinted, or painted in any RAL or NCS colour. The exterior aluminium is independently finished in any RAL colour. This means you can have, for example, natural oak inside and anthracite grey outside. Four exterior finishes are kept in stock for faster delivery: White, Aluminium, Brown, and Bronze.
